Chairman for new board selected
Linda Joseph Nyembe, executive chair of the Gauteng-based property development company, Nu Way Housing Developments, has been named chairman of the new Estate Agency Affairs Board following its first meeting in August. Nyembe previously chaired the EAAB for three consecutive terms. The new real estate consumer protection body was announced by Trade and Industry minister Alec Erwin in July. For the first time ever it was approved by the full Cabinet - a move that ensured both race and gender equality were addressed. Moshidi said the intention behind the new appointments was to ensure the board reflected the concerns and interests of all South Africans in an industry that, until the change in government nine years ago, was racially exclusive. Vice chair is Valencia Mazibuko, another seasoned board member, who served a three-year term between 1996 and 1999. Mazibuko, a nurse by training, works as an estate agent in East London. She holds certificates in management from both Rhodes and Fort Hare universities. The EAAB executive committee also includes Durban-based real estate trainer Jill Corfield, Chief Executive Officer of the National Homebuilders Registration Council Phetola Makgathe and Magauta Mphahlele, currently a director in the Consumer and Corporate Division of the Department of Trade and Industry.
